In the past week I have...

...finished another Shedir hat.

I feel like I'm in a productive groove right now. Things are going on and off the needles at regular intervals with no unfinished business lurking in the closet causing me guilts.

Of course now that I've said that out loud (so-to-speak), all knitting hell is bound to break loose. Whatever. Knit happens.

Some finished socks

DSC02712, originally uploaded by Paisley Womble.

My knit WIPs are pretty much under control at the moment. No long-lingering UFOs. Just a pair of train-knitting socks and one-at-a-time smallish home- / tv-watching-knitting projects.
I've signed up for another year of the Tour de France KAL, again as a sprinter in a green jersey. I ummed and aahhhed about signing up for this. I couldn't really see anything in my Ravelry queue that would really fit any of the themes and I didn't want to find something else just for the sake of it. In the end I decided to stretch the definition because the point is to have fun, not beat yourself up over things. So I'm going to make the Lace Ribbon Scarf by Veronik Avery. The oh-so-tenuous connection with le tour? Veronik is from French-speaking Canada (I think...). 'Nuff said.

Quilt FO: Japanese Charm Squares

DSC02704

Several years ago, at a craft fair somewhere, I ended up with a pack of charm squares - 25 Japanese style craft prints. At a similar time, I found myself in possession of some pastel-ish prints. I'm not sure where they came from because I don't think I would have bought them myself. My suspicion is that they came from one of my aunt's periodic destashing bees. For one reason or another, I decided to team these together.
I started this quilt over three years ago. It got put on hold when I went into the great wedding quilt frenzy of 2005. Then I had birthday quilts on my mind. Then whenever I pulled it out to try and finish it, I would do a little bit and then it would disappear back into the cupboard for months at a time.

But now, finally, it is finished. There are plenty more quilting UFOs lingering in the cupboard. Now that this one, which has been hanging around, almost almost finished, for so long, is complete, I can make a start on knocking over the next cab off the rank. Hopefully it won't take quite so long.

Strong colours

DSC02694, originally uploaded by Paisley Womble.

Another baby surprise jacket in football team colours. This time it's the Richmond Tigers. I love how dramatic this looks. Perhaps a bit OTT for a baby.... nevermind.
Other knitting on the needles....

Bakin' Parkin

DSC02690, originally uploaded by Paisley Womble.

Today's baking adventure is courtesy of the wonderful Mrs Soup. See her recipe here.
I've never heard of "Parkin" before. The dictionary on my trusty iMac tells me that it is a kind of dark gingerbread, typically with a soft dry texture, made with oatmeal and molasses.
This version is a like combination of banana-cake-gingerbread-anzac-biscuit. Delicious!

"Sunday blogger yeah"

I made a hat to go with last week's little cardigan. This hat uses the no-colour-jog technique. Having made it, you realise that what it effectively does is create a spiral of stripes so that they never need to join. I suppose the name "Helix" should be a dead give away on that.

Yesterday I toddled over to the Handknitters Guild Expo at the Brunswick Town Hall. Sarah Durrant was there and I picked up a little bit of stash enhancement (Oops - this stuff just keeps slipping into my shopping basket when I'm not looking...)
