Finishing the second sock of this pair seemed to drag on forever. But now they are finished and I think they're pretty spiffy, so all is forgiven.

Mrs Weasley's Bag of Stitch Witchery - from "Charmed Knits". An excellent knit-from-the-stash project. Even the bag handles had been lying around for far too long (purchased at a craft fair some years ago for a possible project that never eventuated).
The slipped stitch pattern was pretty easy to work and memorize, although the instructions could have been written better. I found myself having to take leaps of faith that what I was doing, was what was actually meant.
I've lined the bag with some left-over lairy purple fabric that I once made a dress from, but of course I forgot to photograph the inside.

(Now of course they're everywhere. (Google it and you'll see what I mean). I even saw a pic of Rupert Grint wearing the slogan on his t-shirt at the last Harry Potter movie premiere.)
I mention this because I think, for the most part, keeping calm and carrying on is what most Victorians are trying to do in the face of the most mind-blowing adversity. We are all terribly sad. Most people here seem to know someone who has been directly or indirectly affected by the fires. No more than one or two degrees of separation.
This is all I can say:
Donations to help people affected can be made to the Red Cross 2009 Bushfire Appeal
Donations to help animals affected can be made to the RSPCA Victoria
If you are in Australia and are eligible, please consider making a blood donation.

However I do have a new toy which means that last night I went scanner-happy with a shoe-box of old photos. Here's couple which must have been taken circa 1978.
I haven't changed much. Behind a desk? Check. Telephone? Check. Spectacles? Check. Corduroy? Check. Mary-Jane shoes? Check.
My first kiss? I have no recollection of this. That's my cousin A with the dark hair. Mum must have taken it since she was the one with a Polaroid Land Camera.
